5 out of 5 stars Awe inspiring!   July 23, 2010

A friend loaned this to me after we had a conversation about education. It took me a couple of weeks reading a few pages every day after work but it was so worth it. It's one of the most inspiring stories of human achievement I've ever read. I'm so proud of all the people in the US, Afghanistan and Pakistan who made building these schools possible. I'm so glad our military leaders are reading this book and rethinking how to best promote peace in those areas. I really can't say enough wonderful things about this book that haven't already been said over and over again. I feel like teenagers and young college students should read this because in a world that SEEMS full of so much hate, death and violence, this book makes you realize it really isn't--that there is an awful lot of good people in this world.

5 out of 5 stars A true American Hero   July 21, 2010

Greg Mortenson is doing what we have failed to do with all our military power in Afghanistan. This story is inspirational and one of the best books I've read in recent history. This book and Three Cups of Tea should be on everyone's summer reading list.

5 out of 5 stars A very pleasing sequel   July 14, 2010

I was reluctant to read this book because I had enjoyed its prequel so much that I assumed, like most sequels, this would be a disappointment. I was so wrong - this story if anything was better written than the first book (a few typos notwithstanding). Instead of resting on his laurels, Martenson is just as dauntless in his quest to establish schools, this time in the even more hostile environment of Afganistan.

Highly recommended.

This interview gives a summary - but it was also interesting to see the author "live" [...]

This follow up to Three Cups of Tea is amazing. It is inspiring and humbling. Read it today. Buy a copy for everyone you know. Who says one person can't make a difference?
