Rust In Peace: One of the greatest records of all time. August 24, 2010 Chris D. Phinney (Memphis, TN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
'Rust In Peace' is certainly a metal masterpiece. I'm listening to it right now. On Five Magics right now. But....I digress. This is a sensational piece of art. I'm so very glad I own this record. I got it for Christmas a few years back and have been in love with it ever since. No album I have had since then can stand up to the sheer technicality and brilliance of Megadeth's 4th offering. Just a brilliant piece of work. Any metal fan must own this piece of music. Megadeth is highly underrated, and it's sad to see that they are not considered one of the greatest bands of all time. Oh well. I know I'll always love them and I hope you will too if you pick this album up. Trust me. You will not be dissapointed. Megadeth has snarling vocals(they actually are vocals that mean something, that have a message behind them), amazing guitar work( Mustaine and Friedman worked together to create a blazing guitar duo), superb technicality(this music is not simple to play. 'Five Magics', alone, could take you a good while to even be sub-par at perfecting if you play guitar. It's like 5 songs in one), and an all around rhythmic masterpiece. Once again, metal fans should buy this record. It's literally required. Good day. Bang your head 'til it bleeds!
Peace sells ... but is anyone salivating? August 19, 2010 Da Peace Dogg (Hollywood) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I remember watching these fine chaps on tour (or tur, as my grandaddy used to say) when they were with Stone Temple Pilots back in '93. Surprisingly, STP gave these guys a run for their money, though that could be because Dean Deleo and Junior hit it off so well. Rumor has it that their "water cooler" chats after the show were the poison of legend.
But back to this record. It's pretty cool, provided you like grunge. What I'm waiting on is the new CCR. (Hey, it was the '70s, man -- everyone was doing stuff!!!!!)
That's my story and I might stick to it!!!!
See ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ONE OF THE BEST TRASH METAL ALBUMS June 5, 2010 Harold (Florida) When i listen for first time this cd im shocked, the guitar riffs is amazing solid and quick. The best songs "HAngar 18"(best solo guitar of the album)Five magics(whit killer chorus) and Tornado of souls(a mastepiece)This is the best cd of Megadeth.when you buying you dont stop listen...
Rust in Peace Remastered May 10, 2010 DARTHTATER (PHILA, PA) RIP contains some of my favorite METAL songs. I recommend getting the original release. Vocals are a bit shoddy on this. Highly recommended. Technical musicianship, well written. Talented band. I like the tempo changes in their songs. Retains some of the jazz from past albums. Megadeth has always been unique in the metal world. Especially the singer. Catchy songs, but not mainstream. Above average Metal album, with a couple of dueling guitarists. Similar, maybe, to Iron Maiden, they didn't wander to far from their roots over the years putting out one winner after another. Both of their catalogs are solid collections and lengthy ones at that. Put this one on your list near the top.
A QUICK, UNBIASED, SANE, TRUTHFUL REVIEW (both versions)... April 3, 2010 Daniel Gray (Miami, Florida) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
QUALIFICATIONS
- been listening to thrash/metal for 2.5 decades
- loves megadeth
- intimately familiar w/all dave mustaines' work
REVIEW (THE TRUTH)
4 STARS FOR:
- the music itself. a headbangers' wet dream (both versions)
- the lyrics. they're capable and interesting. (both versions)
- the album art. conceptual designs are awesome (both versions)
- the expanded inlay. interesting new material/commentary
and photos added. (re-mastered version)
0 STARS FOR:
- the vocals. dave never really could sing and he sounds like his
spandex are on too tight on this record. he made it worse w/the
re-mastered version. (both versions)
- the bonus tracks. "my creation" isn't something i'd care to jam
if it were independant of this album. the rest are just crappy demos
and such that i wouldn't go out of my way to hear. (re-mastered version)
- trying to cash in by tinkering with the original (and failing to improve
it) at the exspense of the consumer (that would be you!).
(re-mastered version)
CONCLUSION:
- you're getting robbed if you already own the original and spend more
cash on the re-master.
- the music alone is exquisite thrash ecstasy and carries the album on
on it's own if nothing else.
- if you don't have either or you have never heard the album at all then
you would be wise to purchase and do so. preferably the original printing
if you can manage it.
